DETAILS OF THE ERP VPN SWITCHOVER

Hi All,

Only people with ERP VPN access privilege will be affect by this notification.

We will discontinue the ERP-FSU VPN services of 146.201.217.10 at 7:30AM Tuesday June 16. Please read the entire email if you have not yet migrated to the new VPN profile. Please read the blue and italic texts if you already migrated, they are added since last email reminder.

Please try to use the new ERP profile at your earliest convenience, so we can fix any issue which may arise during the migration period.

How to migrate?

If you are using Cisco VPN Client, please just download the attached ERP.pcf profile file to your desktop or somewhere you know, and click import on your Cisco VPN Client, browse to where you saved the file, and import to your Cisco VPN client. You will have a connection entry ERP with host vpn.fsu.edu, that's your new ERP profile. Please disconnect your ERP-FSU connection, double click that ERP entry will connect you to the new VPN server vpn.fsu.edu. You should have same access as before with the new ERP profile. Please go to http://us.fsu.edu/vpn to download and install the latest Cisco VPN client if you have some sporadic (within 15 minutes) disconnects when you are using WinSQL application.

If you have administrator privilege on your computer or you want to try something new, you could go to web link http://vpn.fsu.edu/erp, login with your FSUID, click the AnyConnect on the left pane, then click Start AnyConnect, it will install a AnyConnect client with java, active or manual install on your computer for the first time. You could go through same procedure to start AnyConnect next time without admin right. Or you can connect AnyConnect in your program list, just remember to use vpn.fsu.edu/erp in the Connect To field.

Possible WinSQL error and fixes:
Error: SQL30081N A communication error has been detected. Communication protocol being used: "TCP/IP". Communication API being used: "SOCKETS". Location where the error was detected: "10.128.8.60". Communication function detecting the error: "send". Protocol specific error code(s): "10054", "*", "0". SQLSTATE=08001
(State:40003, Native Code: FFFF8A7F)

New VPN server has a security feature of dropping TCP connection idled over 1 hour. If you do not have any traffic in your SQL connection for an hour, the VPN will drop the SQL connection, thus cause the error above. We have changed the TCP connection idle timeout to 4 hours. If your WinSQL connection dropped after 4 hours idle, you may have to reconnect the WinSQL connection, but not VPN connection since VPN connection is still active.

SSH or other Applications are not able to connect with just hostname
Please use either fully qualified domain name like HostName.erp.fsu.edu or IP address like 10.128.8.60.

What's the difference between the Cisco VPN Client and AnyConnect?

Functionally, they are the same. Both will be supported for a while. On the other hand, Cisco VPN Client is IPSec client while AnyConnect is SSL client. AnyConnect client will support 64bit OSes and is the future VPN client.

How to report issues related to the new ERP profile?

Email core@otc.fsu.edu with your FSUID, ifconfig /all netstat -nr before and after the VPN connection, what network resource(IP address, Protocol, Port or application) your are trying to connect to.
Thanks.
Shiling
