STEP #1: Check Eligibility
  Send email to help@otc.fsu.edu providing name, e-mail address, street address and home telephone number. If available, proceed to step 2.
STEP #2: Place Order
   Departments who wish to pay for DSL at an employee's residence or off-campus location, can place an order and be billed through the Office of Telecommunications. If DSL is available at the employee's residence, or off-campus location just click here now to order online.
At the Online Order Form:
Under Data Services: select "FSU@Home (DSL)" (check estimate only box)
In "Details of Work" field, list :
instruction icon Residential: Employee's Name, Home Phone Number and Address. Also, indicate Level of Service, and Installation Option. Business line will be required.
instruction icon Business: Department Name, Address, non 644, 645 Number, Level of Service, and Installation Option. Business line will be required.
STEP #3: Installation & Configuration
  Visit Embarq's High-speed Internet Support Center for installation information, user guides, technical support or to test your speed! If you need assistance, contact FSU Technology Services Help Desk at 850-644-HELP (4357).
STEP #4: Accessing the FSU LAN (optional)
 

Once your DSL is installed and you have access to the Internet, most sites at FSU are public. For restricted sites such as the Library, you will find instructions on that page (i.e. EZ Proxy.) If you are an employee working from home, you can install VPN (Virtual Private Network) to access your work desktop from home. Your department's Network Administrator should be able to assist. If you need further assistance, contact FSU Technology Services Help Desk at 850-644-HELP (4357) or email at help@otc.fsu.edu.


DESCRIPTION


DSL (digital subscriber line) carries both voice and data simultaneously using your existing home phone line. It delivers high-speed Internet connectivity to your existing telephone line at speeds that will allow you to do more than dial-up. What this means is that you can talk on the phone and connect to internet the same time. Embarq & FSU have a partnership that offers the benefits of DSL at your home as well as assistance in accessing the FSU LAN and other servers or systems required by your specific department. You must have 250 MB of available disk space, a CD or DVD drive, an ethernet card and Windows 98 or higher (Mac OS8 or higher)
