Basic Telephone Service

Basic telephone line service is dependent upon your instrument (telephone), class of service, standard and optional features. Dialing features and capabilities may be changed by your departmental representative completing a Telecommunications Service Request (TSR) form.

  • The instrument you have will determine which features are available to you and how you will use them.
  • Use Instrument Finder to determine which phone you have. Click on the reference guide for your phone to learn which features are available.
Dialing Capabilities
Class of Service - This will determine if you have the ability to make off-campus, long distance or international calls.
Dial 29 to check your Class of Service.
Class 20 Campus, local, operator-assisted calls, SUNCOM long distance, Credit Card, Collect Calls and International calls.
Class 23 Campus, local, operator assisted calls and SUNCOM long distance calls.
Class 24 Campus and local calls.
Class 25 Campus, local; operator-assisted calls, SUNCOM long distance, and International calls.
Note: All operator assisted, long distance and international calls require an authorization code.
Class 26 Campus only.
Features (Custom Calling) Depending upon your instrument, you may have various calling features such as return call, call waiting or caller ID added to your line. Voice Mail Add a variety of voice mail options to your line. How much does it cost?Each year, the Office of Telecommunications conducts an analysis of costs related to the monthly fees added to the basic telephone charges.  If necessary, these fees are adjusted based on costs incurred by the University.  The previous fiscal year and current year rates for 2007-08 are as follows:
